For the first film lecture, we were
introduced to our new lecturer, Elroy, and given a presentation on
what we would be doing this semester. The work seems to have the same
basic routine as last year. Each week, we would have a presentation
and discussion on a particular film, and then watch it after. I'm
excited for this semester as, different to last year, there were 2
animated films on the list. This is great news for us animation
students, as last year the lectures were clearly aimed for the film
students, with us animators just tagging along and learning what we
could. The full list of films we would discuss and watch are:
Modern Times – Charles Chaplin (1936)
Alice - Jan Svankmajer (1988)
Barefoot Gen - Mori Masaki (1983)
13 Tzameti - Gela Babluani (2005)
The Secret Of Kells – Tomm Moore
(2009)
Run Lola Run – Tom Tykwer (1998)
I'm looking forward to seeing some of
these movies, especially Barefoot Gen and The Secret Of Kells (the 2
animated films well be looking at). I will admit I am not looking
forward to Alice, everything I've seen and heard about it online,
doesn't exactly fill me with hope that I'll enjoy this film.
